This is the difference between steel grades 18-10, 18-0 and 13-0
Many cutlery and kitchen knives are stamped: 18-10, 18-0 or 13-0. But what does this mysterious code language actually mean? We are happy to explain it to you! The stamp on your cutlery indicates the composition of the stainless steel your cutlery is made of.
18-10 steel
The code 18-10 stands for the steel type chrome nickel steel. The 18 stands for 18% chrome and the 10 stands for 10% nickel. The composition of this steel must comply with EU guidelines, so the percentages are exactly correct. Chrome nickel steel is known for being durable and very corrosion-resistant. It generally has an even brighter shine than 18-0 cutlery. Cutlery made of 18-10 stainless steel can be put in the dishwasher. The popular cutlery models Moderno and Drift from Amefa are examples of this. View all 18-10 cutlery from Amefa.
18-0 steel
The steel code 18-0 means 18% chrome and no nickel content. Our products made of this material are resistant to corrosion and of good quality. Cutlery made of 18-0 steel can be put in the dishwasher. We recommend that you wipe this cutlery dry with a soft cloth immediately after the program has ended. Popular models from Amefa that are made of 18-0 steel are Austin and Felicity. 13-0 steel
The steel type 13-0 is used for kitchen, table and steak knives. The steel consists of 13% chromium and no nickel. This ensures that these metals can be forged harder, making the knives easier and sharper to sharpen. The advantage of this steel is that it stays sharp for a longer period of time. We advise against cleaning kitchen and steak knives in the dishwasher. It is better to do this by hand. This prevents the knife from becoming blunt and makes it last longer.
